Do you have squirrels in your yard? You might like watching them scamper around, but you probably wouldn\u2019t like it if they tried to move in with you. Squirrels often look for new nesting places during the fall season, so it\u2019s important to be vigilant about preventing a squirrel infestation once the weather turns crisp and cool. Here are four tips for keeping squirrels out of your house this fall.<\/p>\n

  1. Remove food sources.<\/strong>
    \nSquirrels won’t want to nest in your house if there are no food sources nearby. Use squirrel baffles to prevent them from getting to bird feeders and consider removing any nut-bearing trees close to your house. Squirrels are scavengers so don\u2019t throw out any food where they can get to it, either.<\/li>\n
  2. Check for entry points.<\/strong>
    \nInspect your house regularly and make sure there are no places where squirrels can easily get in. Keep in mind that a squirrel only needs a 2-inch-wide hole to squeeze its way into your home! Attics are favorite nesting places for squirrels so check your vents, roof, soffits, and siding carefully for any damage or holes. Take a look at your foundation, too \u2013 sometimes squirrels will nest in basements.<\/li>\n
  3. Trim back trees near your house.<\/strong>
    \nSquirrels will be more likely to nest in your attic if they can get to it easily. If you have trees near your house, consider trimming back any overhanging limbs to discourage squirrels from making the leap onto your roof.<\/li>\n
  4. Know when to bring in the experts.<\/strong>
    \nIf you suspect you have squirrels nesting in your house, don\u2019t try to get them out yourself. Animal removal can be a tricky business. A wildlife control professional can tell you how to get the critters out safely.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
