Residential Bat Removal

Residential Bat Removal

Bats are incredibly important because they are pollinators and controllers of insect populations. However, when they choose to roost in your home, they can cause a host of problems. Thankfully, there is a way to remove bats safely and humanely.

Bat Removal in Marin County

There are 24 species of bat in California, so it isn’t at all unusual to see them flying around at dawn and dusk, feeding on mosquitoes and other insects. Once inside a home, bats can cause significant property damage and even endanger your health.

The good news is that you can eliminate the risk to your health and property by calling a professional bat removal company.

For over 20 years, Animal Capture Wildlife control has been offering residential bat removal in Marin County and across the state of California. We have experience with removing bats from all areas of a home, including walls, chimneys, and attics without harming them or your property.

Bat Prevention

You may wonder if there is any way to prevent bats from entering your home. The answer is yes! However, before you take any preventive or protective measures, it’s important to understand them better.

More About Bats

Bats are small mammals who sleep during the day and spend their nights eating insects and gathering nectar and pollen from various plants. They live in colonies, choosing to roost where predators can’t reach them. In the wild, bats have been found roosting in caves and tree hollows.

Human structures like attics and chimneys also offer bats the protection they need from predators, as well as a safe place for them to have and raise their young.

Like mice, bats can collapse their bodies enough to get into the smallest spaces. How small? About the width of a quarter! Now, think about how many spaces that size are in your home, and you begin to realize how easy it can be for bats to invade.

Twenty species of California’s bats have been designated as Species of Special Concern. Bats nurse their young between June and August. Exclusion and removal should never occur during this time, as baby bats cannot fly and will starve if their mothers are not with them.

What Can You Do to Prevent Bats from Invading?

Noise, observation, bat-only spaces, and light removal are four ways you can prevent bats from invading your home.

Make noise. Bats prefer quiet places for their roosts. Making it noisy around your home will make it undesirable for them.

A word of caution, however; although there are a number of ultrasonic devices on the market which claim to deter bats, our clients did not find that they worked. You can try placing a radio near potential roosting areas and leaving it on at a low volume.

Observe. Observing your property at dusk and dawn can reveal where bats are roosting. You’ll want to watch for activity around the higher areas of your home, including the typical chimney and attic, as well as in your eaves and even between bricks of your chimney or walls.

You’ll also want to check for any droppings; bat and mouse droppings look very much alike. A bat dropping will crumble when crushed between your (gloved) fingers. A mouse dropping will keep its shape when crushed.

Create space. Installing bat houses will give bats a favorable alternative to your home and allow you to continue benefiting from their pollination and insect reduction benefits.

Remove light. Light attracts the insects bats feed on, making your home a convenient place to roost. Leaving outdoor lights off when bats are most active can help discourage them.

Bat Removal Services

The best way to protect bat species and get them out of your home is by calling a professional. Bat removal services from Animal Capture Wildlife Control protect bats and ensure they can’t return to your home. We are licensed by the Department of Fish and Game to remove bats and other animal species.

Bat Exclusion

Bat species in California are at very high risk because of something called White Nose Syndrome (WNS). WNS spreads very quickly through colonies and has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of bats in a very short time. Because of this, exclusion devices are the only legal method of bat control.

Bat exclusion devices are installed at the areas we have identified as access points. When dusk arrives and it’s time for bats to feed, they fly out of these access points uninterrupted, right through the bat exclusion device. When dawn arrives and bats try to return through their access points, the exclusion devices prevent them from re-entering.

Exclusion devices allow for bat control without causing any stress to these animals through handling.

Why Us?

A quick search will reveal many bat removal companies in your area. So why should you choose Animal Capture Wildlife Control?

First of all, we respect all wildlife species, including bats. We understand that bat populations have experienced devastating losses, due to WNS, and must therefore be treated with the utmost care.

Some companies may claim to get rid of bats, but may kill bats to remove them. This is not only illegal, but causes even further decimation of already-threatened bat populations. We use exclusion devices to ensure bats can fly freely out of your home. We also do not install these devices during times when mothers are nursing their young.

Our experience and excellent service record have made us California’s leading wildlife removal company. We inspect your home for signs of bat entry and install exclusion devices. Once we have confirmed all bats have gone, we seal the access points.

In order to be effective for our clients and humane for the bats, bat control must occur at the right times of year and not harm the animal in any way. Animal Capture Wildlife Control keeps bat populations safe with professional, humane, and efficient removal. Call (310) 551-0901 or visit us online for more information.
